So Exciting, by Sarah Williamson, from her Paradise Lost series, $2800.
Welcome to the mid-November newsletter. Earlier this week, the 12 collective members did the monthly gallery dance, each rotating to a new space. Along with the changes, there’s lots of new work to see as the leadup to Christmas gets going.
Feature artist
Sarah Williamson
Gravity Staves, from Resurgence series, by Sarah Williamson, $780.
Sarah’s field is encaustic art, combining materials like beeswax and resin in an ancient technique once used by the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians to caulk ship hulls.
“What’s not to like about working with encaustic?” she asks.
“From the beautiful aroma and creamy texture to diverse working options. Painting, carving, accretion, scraping, layering and sculpture are all part of my process. I’m constantly captivated by the unpredictable nature of the medium and I allow it to lead me to create intuitively.”
In addition to her Wall to Wall membership, Sarah is a resident artist at Gravity Gallery and Vineyard in Mahana.
Sarah will be taking part in the Beacon Hill Vintage Christmas Market tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 3pm. Beacon Hill is at 205 Paton Rd, Richmond.
